IOWA CITY, Iowa -- In its first road dual meet of the season,
the University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team defeated Iowa 436.550-420.200
Saturday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
No. 4 OU posted its largest winning margin of the season and won every event
as a team. The Sooners claimed individual titles on five of the six events in
addition to sophomore Alec Robin winning the all-around crown.
Robin scored a career-high 85.400 in the all-around, highlighted by career highs
on five of his six events. He recorded career highs on floor (15.300), pommel
horse (13.800) and rings (13.200) and tied his career highs on vault (14.800)
and high bar (14.550).
"We did a pretty good job all the way around," head coach Mark Williams
said. "It was the first time we've done the away-meet rotation. We started
on pommel horse, and they did a good job adjusting to that. We hit our routines
well having added a few more things from last week. Overall I thought it was
a good performance for an away competition. We're looking forward to a week
off to regroup and get ready for a couple of home meets."
For the first time this season, OU opened the meet on pommel horse. The Sooners
scored a 71.200, led by Michael Reid's career-high 15.050.
Oklahoma found themselves down by just .350 points heading into the second rotation.
A 73.700 on floor put the Sooners ahead, a lead they never gave up. Robin's
15.300, Todd Dowdy's 14.950 and Dylan Akers' season-high 14.900 propelled OU.
The Sooners extended its lead with a 73.100 on vault. Raymond White scored a
season-high with a 14.800, and Dowdy posted a career-high 14.550 in addition
to Robin's 14.800.
On rings, OU scored its highest total of the day with a 74.050, highlighted
by Michael Squires' career-high 15.200. William Clement also produced a career
high with a 14.450.
Oklahoma recorded a 71.500 on high bar. Stanton Rehkemper's season-high 14.650
was a high for OU, followed by Robin's career-high-tying 14.550. Akers made
his season debut on the event with a 14.100.
OU closed the meet with a season-high score of 73.000 on parallel bars. Sergey
Resnick posted a 14.800, followed by Danny Berardini's and Jacoby Rubin's 14.700.
Rubin's scored was a career high.
