Murray Carries Cowboys to Thanksgiving Day Win
Running back DeMarco Murray did something no Dallas player had done in nearly 10 years as the Cowboys rallied to defeat Oakland, 31-24, on Thanksgiving Day.
Murray set a career high with three touchdown rushes, the first multi-touchdown game of his career, and gained 63 yards on 17 carries. He becomes the first Cowboy to rush for more than one score in a game since Marion Barber on Dec. 19, 2009, and the first to account for three touchdowns since Julius Jones on Dec. 6, 2004.
The eighth player in Dallas history to rush for three touchdowns, Murray got his first of the day on a two-yard run to tie the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter.
Trailing 21-7, Murray then cut the deficit in half in the second quarter on this four-yard TD run.
Later in the fourth quarter, with the score even at 21-21, Murray broke the tie and scored what would be the eventual game-winner on this seven-yard touchdown run.
Complete highlights of Murray, who also had five receptions for 39 yards, are also available.
James Hanna also started at tight end for the Cowboys in the win, while rookie Stacy McGee made his third start of the season at defensive tackle for the Raiders.
Peterson Goes Over 10,000 Career Rushing Yards
While Murray was making personal history on Thursday, fellow running back Adrian Peterson was making league history on Sunday. Peterson became the28th player to surpass 10,000 rushing yards for his career as Minnesota outlasted Chicago, 23-20, in overtime.
Peterson rushed for a season-best 211 yards on a team-record 35 carries. He gained a personal-best 12 first downs and eight of his runs went for at least 10 yards, the second-highest total of his career.
The 200-yard performance was the fifth of Peterson's career, placing him in a tie for second all-time in NFL history.
Peterson's first big highlight came on the second-to-last play of the first quarter with this 23-yard run.
On the Vikings' next drive, Peterson went around the left end for an 18-yard gain to help set up a Minnesota score two players later.
Trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter and facing a fourth-and-one at the Chicago 31-yard line, Peterson burst through the line for a 19-yard gain. The fourth-down conversion also happened to be the run in which Peterson eclipsed the 10,000-yard mark. Three plays later, the Vikings scored to cut the lead to 20-17.
Peterson needed just 101 games to reach 10,000 yards, the third-fastest player to do so behind Eric Dickerson (91) and Jim Brown (98). Peterson is also just the fifth player to accomplish the feat in his first seven seasons, joining Dickerson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith.
In overtime, Peterson used this 21-yard run to get the Vikings into field goal range, only to have a penalty negate the game-winning field goal.
It led to an eventual miss later in the drive, but Chicago also missed to give Minnesota another chance. Peterson was given the ball four times on the seven-play drive, accounting for 30 yards and setting up the game-winning field goal.
Highlights recapping Peterson's day can be found here.
Phil Loadholt also started at right tackle in the Vikings' win.
