Actor Ed Harris Lends Talents to Intro Video
September 08, 2012 | Athletics

The OU football intro video will premiere prior to kickoff of the Sooners home opener versus Florida A&M, set for 6 p.m. tonight.
The eagerly-anticipated OU football intro video triggers millions of goose bumps inside Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium as it raises emotions for players and fans alike, while reflecting the program's glorious tradition prior to the start of each game.
"I have been a huge Sooners fan since the Bud Wilkinson days and very proud to be a part of this season," Harris said. "Boomer Sooner!"
Harris lends his voice to the 82,112-seat theatre not far from where he kicked off his acting career while studying drama at the University of Oklahoma in the early 1970s. The former Sooner has been an Academy Award nominee as Best Supporting Actor for three films -- Apollo 13, The Truman Show and The Hours -- and Best Actor nominee for his role in Pollock.
Note: Fans at Owen Field will see it first tonight, then we'll post the video on our live blog. |
The 61-year-old's past roles have transformed him from heroic astronaut John Glenn in The Right Stuff (1983) to cold, calculating World War II German sniper Major Erwin König in Enemy at the Gates (2001) to sympathetic South Carolina high school football coach Harold Jones in Radio (2003).
Harris' iconic delivery has been cast in other popular projects. He was the voice of a character in Call of Duty: Black Ops, which has become the best-selling video game of all-time since its release in November 2010.
This year's video was produced by SoonerVision, the OU Athletics Department's in-house broadcast and production studio. The 2012 edition features appearances by former Heisman Trophy winners Sam Bradford, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White as well as a number of other current players and prominent alums.
