Haney: Two Sooners on Breakout List - 9:17 a.m. Oklahoma was one of just three teams with two players on ESPN Insider writer Travis Haney's "Top 30 breakout players for 2012." OU Featured in BCS Chase Article on ESPN - 3:09 p.m. ESPN.com Mark Schlabach listed 10 games that may have a direct impact on who will play for this year's national championship. Oklahoma was one of just three schools featured in multiple games on the list, with the Sooners' contests vs. Texas and at West Virginia making the cut.

ESPN's Big 12 Preview - 5:46 p.m. ESPN analysts Todd Blackledge and Kirk Herbstreit break down the Sooners and the Big 12, picking OU to win the conference.
Value of Nickel Going Up - 5:03 p.m. Two Sooners are solidifying the nickel position and providing quality depth in the secondary.
"I feel like we have had a really solid camp," defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. "(Julian Wilson) will see a lot of playing time. He has worked awfully hard. Gabe Lynn gives us some flexibility within our defense. If we go five or six DBs, we will feel good about those six players."
Lynn has played in 17 career games with two starts last year, and is the frontrunner to start at nickel. The Jenks, Okla., native recorded 22 tackles in 2011.
"Inside he is a big, long guy that can cover people up," Mike Stoops said. "He is not slow by any stretch of the imagination, but he understands where he is supposed to be inside. He likes contact and he likes to hit people. He is a great tackler. We feel very comfortable with where he is at inside."
Wilson, meanwhile, played in 11 games last season as a freshman, primarily contributing on special teams.
"Julian's been very good," Bob Stoops said. "He's going to play a lot this year. Whether he starts or not, he's going to be in the rotation with those guys. We've really liked how he's played. He's done really well."

Jefferson, OU Highlighted in Herbie Awards - 2:16 p.m. ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit unveiled the 12th annual Herbie Awards on The Worldwide Leader's website Tuesday, as the Sooners were highlighted in five different categories. OU was led by Tony Jefferson, whose name popped up three times. "The Herbie Awards" air on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT on Tuesday evening.
Mike Stoops was tabbed the best coordinator hire nationally. Tony Jefferson was listed as the second-best safety, No. 4 under "Don't Turn Your Back: Backyard Football," and was named to the All-Herbie Team. WR Trey Metoyer was listed fourth in the "Ahead of the Curve" award. Herbstreit picked Oklahoma to win the Big 12.
Sooners in the NFL: Preseason Week 2 - 1:47 p.m. QB Sam Bradford sported a quarterback rating of 144.4, completing 6-of-9 pass attempts for 102 yards and two TDs as the St. Louis Rams defeated Kansas City, 31-17. DB Jamell Fleming led the Arizona Cardinals with eight tackles and added a pass defended in the 31-27 win over Oakland. TE Jermaine Gresham injured his right knee on a 25-yard reception as the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Atlanta Falcons, 24-19, on Thursday. Gresham is expected to be OK. Dominique Franks had two tackles for Atlanta. DE Auston English recorded two tackles and a pass defended in the Cleveland Browns' 35-10 win over Green Bay. RB Mossis Madu ran five times for 11 yards and recorded a six-yard reception, while Gerald McCoy notched a tackle in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 30-7 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Curtis Lofton registered five stops, Remi Ayodele notched a tackle, and Garrett Hartley booted a 37-yard field goal and an extra point, but New Orleans lost, 27-24, to Jacksonville. DE Frank Alexander recorded a sack, TE J.J. Finley snatched a 5-yard reception, Reggie Smith had four tackles and Jonathan Nelson had three tackles as the Sooner quartet helped the Carolina Panthers defeat the Miami Dolphins, 23-17. WR Ryan Broyles made his debit with two receptions for 26 yards in the Detroit Lions' 27-12 win over Baltimore. Ronnell Lewis recorded a tackle and pass defended, while Travis Lewis registered a stop for Detroit. Jeremy Beal had two tackles, including a TFL, but his Denver Broncos fell to Seattle, 30-10. TE James Hanna hauled in four receptions for 31 yards and RB DeMarco Murray recorded three carries for 12 yards and two receptions for 18 yards in Dallas' 30-28 loss at San Diego.

SiriusXM College Sports Nation Visits Norman - 2:53 p.m. SiriusXM College Sports Nation visited the University of Oklahoma today as part of its 2012 Camp Tour and broadcasted live from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Switzer Center. It marked the 11th of 13 stops for the station during the month of August to the top college football programs in the country.
Among those that visited with Mark Packer and Gino Torretta were: Barry Switzer, Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione, head coach Bob Stoops, Landry Jones, Gabe Ikard, Kenny Stills and Tony Jefferson.

Sooners in NFL Preseason Action - 9:40 a.m. Several former Sooners were in action throughout the NFL preseason this past weekend. Check out the highlights below:
Cincinnati Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham caught a 19-yard pass in a 17-6 win over the New York Jets on Friday. Ronnell Lewis had two tackles and Travis Lewis notched a stop, as their Detroit Lions fell Friday, 19-17, to the Cleveland Browns. Several former Sooners (Davin Joseph, Mossis Madu and Gerald McCoy) had a hand in Tampa Bay's 20-7 win on Friday over the Miami Dolphins. Madu rushed for six yards and hauled in a pair of receptions, while McCoy recorded a tackle-for-loss. Cornerback Jamell Fleming registered three tackles, including one for loss, as his Arizona Cardinals lost, 27-17, to the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. WR Juaquin Iglesias reeled in two receptions for 23 yards in the Houston Texans' 26-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. For the Panthers, Reggie Nelson tallied three tackles, Frank Alexander had a pair of tackles in his debut and Jonathan Nelson had a stop. Quarterback Sam Bradford completed 7-of-9 pass attempts for 57 yards as the St. Louis Rams lost 38-3 to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Sooners in NFL Preseason Action - 12:03 p.m. Several former Sooners were in action throughout the NFL preseason on Thursday evening. Check out the highlights below:
Atlanta Falcons cornerback Dominique Franks tied for Atlanta's leading tackler with six stops and returned a punt 45 yards, but the Falcons lost 31-17 to the Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans Saints LB Curtis Lofton tied for the team's second-most tackles with six, while also recovering a fumble. Saint and former Sooner Garrett Hartley also made good on a 27-yard field goal for half of the Saints' points, as New Orleans lost to New England, 7-6. LB Keenan Clayton recorded two tackles as his Philadelphia Eagles topped the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-23. Denver Broncos DE Jeremy Beal disrupted a pair of Chicago Bear third downs with two sacks totaling a loss of 11 yards and recorded three total tackles in a 31-3 win.
Sooners Fourth in ESPN Power Rankings - 10:16 a.m. ESPN has unveiled its preseason college football power rankings with five schools per day, starting with 25-21. After the long wait, OU fans finally know where their team stands as The Worldwide Leader pegged the Sooners fourth. Check out ESPN's take.

Jones Preseason Heisman Favorite? - 2:45 p.m.

writer Ivan Maisel (@Ivan_Maisel) listed OU senior quarterback Landry Jones as his preseason Heisman frontrunner during his online chat Wednesday afternoon at around the 3:18 p.m. mark. In response to his first question, Maisel also expects the Sooners to win the Big 12 this year.
Head coach Bob Stoops announced that senior wide receiver Justin Brown has joined the University of Oklahoma football roster. Brown comes to Norman after spending three seasons at Penn State, where he was named third-team preseason All-Big Ten by Phil Steele's College Football Preview.
During his tenure with the Nittany Lions, Brown saw duty in 30 contests, collecting 73 receptions for 1,047 yards (14.9 avg.) with three touchdowns. His career receiving yardage total ranks 20th in Penn State history. He also returned 49 punts for 338 yards (6.9 avg.) with a 33-yard long.
"We are excited that Justin wants to finish his college career here at OU," Stoops said. "Justin started 11 games last season and was a productive performer on offense and special teams. We are confident that he can quickly integrate with our team. We're looking forward to the experience and maturity he will add to our receiving corps."
Brown was the only Penn State player to have at least one catch in every game last year, ranking second on the squad with 35 catches for 517 yards (14.8 avg.) with three touchdowns. He registered a career-long, 69-yard scoring grab in the TicketCity Bowl vs. Houston.
He led the team with 27 punt returns for 220 yards. His 33-yard punt returns vs. Purdue and at Wisconsin were the club's longest of the season, while his 737 all-purpose yards were the team's third-highest tally. In total, he took 731 snaps in 2011, the highest total of any Penn State wide receiver or running back.

Sooners Kickoff NFL Preseason - 9:12 a.m. The NFL preseason opened up Sunday evening with the annual Hall of Fame Game, which saw four former Sooners in action. Three Sooners helped the New Orleans Saints to a 17-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Remi Ayodele and Curtis Lofton each had three tackles for New Orleans, while Garrett Hartley chipped in a pair of extra points. For the Cardinals, Jamell Fleming recorded a tackle.
