NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team recorded a second-round 285 (+1) Saturday at the 15-team Mason Rudolph Championship, falling to second place at the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn. The Sooners trail host Vanderbilt by one stroke with 18 holes remaining.

Oklahoma got off to a slow start for the second straight day, but remains in contention following a surge by Abraham Ancer in the final six holes. The Sooners have a firm hold on second place with a two-round 565 (-3), 10 strokes better than third-place Georgia State.

“We hung in all day,” said OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “The boys did a nice job of keeping us in contention for tomorrow.”

Ancer had a quiet front nine, recording a bogey on No. 2 and a birdie on No. 8. Following a second bogey on the 12th hole, Ancer registered five birdies in the final six holes to finish under 70 for the second straight round. Ancer's second-round 67 (-4) moved him into the top spot in the 83-man field. With a two-round 135 (-7), Ancer leads second-place Jonathan Grey of Georgia State by one stroke.

“It was great watching Abe coming down the stretch,” Hybl said. “He is playing like an All-American right now, and it would be great to see him go get a win.”

Michael Schoolcraft also turned in a solid second round for the Sooners. The junior carded 16 pars, a bogey and birdie (on 18) for an even-par day. Schoolcraft moved up two spots to a share of eighth place with a 1-under 141.

Senior Will Kropp had another busy round on the club's south course. After a pair of early birdies, Kropp recorded five bogeys and two birdies to finish the round with a 1-over 72, falling one spot to a share of 16th place.

Freshman Beau Titsworth recorded a triple bogey, three bogeys and two birdies in the second round to finish with a 4-over 75. He fell 10 spots to a 25th-place tie with a two-round 146 (+4).

Sophomore Charlie Saxon carded a 7-over 78 in the second round and owns a share of 76th place with a two-round 154 (+12).

Michael Gellerman, competing as an individual, started on the 10th hole and carded a clean back nine. The sophomore added recorded bogeys on the first and second holes, but managed to finish the round at par with a birdie on No. 8. Gellerman moved up two spots to a share of eighth place.

“We have a chance tomorrow and you can't ask for much more than that,” Hybl said.
