Devonshire Named Defensive Player of the Week

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire was named the Big 12 Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. It is Devonshire's second player of the week accolade, and is the first for a Sooner this season.

Devonshire recorded her first shutout of the season with a six-save performance in Oklahoma's upset win over No. 3 Oklahoma State on Sept. 7. The 15th shutout of her career was the first loss of the season for OU's Bedlam Series rivals. Against Oral Roberts on Sept. 9, she had two saves, giving her a Big 12-leading 41 saves on the season.

“I'm delighted that Kelsey has been recognized for her outstanding work so far this season,” head coach Matt Potter said. “She is having the senior year that her summer has prepared her for. I'm sure she would be first to credit the work of people in front of her as she accepts the award. She is one of the many successes of our first season together and hopefully the first of many to be recognized for their endeavor.”

Playing in every minute of all eight games this season, Devonshire has a goals-against average of 0.93 per game and a .837 save percentage. The North Richland Hills, Texas, native has led the Sooners to a 4-3-1 record this season.

Devonshire joins Kansas' Caroline Kastor and TCU's Makenzie Koch as Big 12 Soccer weekly award winners for games played from Sept. 4-9. Kastor was recognized as the offensive player of the week while Koch earned newcomer of the week honors.

The Sooners hit the road this weekend for their final two games of the non-conference season, playing at Rice on Friday, Sept. 14, and at SMU on Sunday, Sept. 16. OU opens conference play at home on Friday, Sept. 21 vs. Baylor at 7 p.m. before hosting rival Texas at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
