NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma is ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll released Thursday morning, marking the 10th time in 14 seasons under head coach Bob Stoops that the Sooners will open the season ranked in the Top Five and the 12th consecutive year in which OU will be featured in the preseason Top 10.
The Sooners were one of five teams to receive at least one first-place vote, joining LSU, Alabama, USC and Florida State.
Oklahoma will face six teams during the regular season ranked in the preseason USA Today Coaches Top 25 including West Virginia (11), Texas (15), TCU (17), Oklahoma State (19), Kansas State (21) and Notre Dame (24).
No. 4 Oklahoma begins the 2012 season at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas against UTEP on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 8:30 p.m. MT/9:30 p.m. CT.
