Tommie Harris has been named to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. A four-year starter at defensive tackle for the Ellison Eagles (Killeen, Texas), Harris earned all-state honors as a junior (the first team's only non-senior) after recording 139 tackles, 21 for losses, 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles for a 3-7 team.
Double- and even triple-teamed as a senior, his numbers declined but his stock soared. The 6-3, 285-pounder was named to Texas Football's Super Team and rated the state's top defensive line prospect.
Recruiting analyst Tom Lemming ranked him the No. 35 overall prospect in the nation and he lived up to the billing at Oklahoma, earning all-America honors as a sophomore and junior and winning the Lombardi Trophy before declaring for the NFL draft. He was named in 2009 to Sports Illustrated's college football all-decade team.
Taken in the first round by Chicago in 2004, he has been to three Pro Bowls in his first six seasons.
Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett today announced the 2012 class of inductees into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, that included former Sooner great, Dewey Selmon. Selmon's induction will mark the third Selmon brother induction into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. Lee Roy Selmon was inducted in 1992 and Lucious Selmon was inducted in 2011.
One of the three legendary Selmon brothers, Dewey Selmon played linebacker for the University of Oklahoma. A two-time All American (1974 & 1975), he was a key defensive figure on the 1974 & 1975 Sooner National Championship teams. During those seasons, he registered triple figures in tackles, second only to his brother Lee Roy. He went on to play for six seasons in the NFL, five with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The induction ceremonies will be held on August 6, 2012 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

University of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops confirmed on Thursday that sophomore LB Kellen Jones (6-1, 223) has decided to transfer. "Kellen leaves the program in good standing, and we wish him the best," Stoops said.
Jones played in 12 games as a reserve linebacker and special teams contributor in 2011, posting 10 tackles (three solo). He registered two tackles apiece vs. Texas Tech, Baylor and Iowa State. The Houston, Texas native prepped at St. Pius X High School.

Kenny Mossman provides us a quick rundown of the rules changes for college football to be instituted for the 2012 season:
Teams will kick off at the 35-yard line instead of 30. Players on the kicking team can't line up for the play behind their own 30-yard line.
Touchbacks on free kicks will be moved to the 25-yard line instead of the 20. Touchbacks on other plays (punts that go into the end zone, fumbles that go out of the end zone) will remain at the 20.
If a player loses his helmet (other than as the result of a foul by the opponent), it will be treated like an injury. The player must leave the game and is not allowed to participate for the next play. If a player loses his helmet, he must not continue to participate in the play.
Offensive players in the tackle box at the snap who are not in motion are allowed to block below the waist legally without restriction. All other players are restricted from blocking below the waist with a few exceptions (for example, straight-ahead blocks).
Players are prohibited from leaping over blockers in an attempt to block a punt.

Oklahoma's Jamell Fleming is the 101st Sooner to play in the Senior Bowl, a post-season college football exhibition game played in Mobile, Ala., which showcases the best NFL draft prospects of those collegiate players who have completed their eligibility. This year's game is Saturday at 2 p.m. and will air on the NFL Network.
Fleming checked in with SoonerSports.com on Friday with an update on how the week in Mobile has treated the cornerback...
"We started with the weigh in and I don't even know how to explain that experience. They call your name out and you go up on a stage in front of over 100 people wearing just your shorts. Everyone is staring at you as they call your weight out, it's a weird experience. After that, we did some of the normal football testing to show what we could do.
"Waking up on Monday we got to practice and we finally got to meet the NFL coaches for the first time and talk with them. Going to practice with guys that are as talented as they are is a good challenge and really lets me showcase my skills. Going against NFL-bound guys was an experience that not a lot of people get to have.
"After each day of practice we sit down to meet with NFL scouts, coaches and front office staff for interviews. I've met with over 20 teams and getting to sit down with general managers and coaches to tell them who I am, who my parents are and where I've come from is a great experience."
