CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Max White singled in the game-winning run in the 10th inning as the No. 23 Sooners eliminated Army from the NCAA Charlottesville Regional with a 2-1 win on Sunday.
"I have to commend our opponents, Army," said OU's Sunny Golloway, who recorded his 300th win as the Sooners' head coach. "I thought they (Army) played extremely well and are extremely well coached."
Steven Okert (9-7) tossed the final three innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three as Oklahoma (39-23) advanced to play in tonight's 6 p.m. CT game against the loser of Virginia and Appalachian State (game underway).
Jonathan Gray was stellar in his fifth straight seven-inning start with six strikeouts and one run allowed off five hits and two walks (one hit batter).
"We've talked about power arms and our power arms kept us in the game and helped us win the game," added Golloway. "We'll throw some more power arms out there, but we're going to have to swing the bats."
Army (41-15) broke through in the bottom of the fifth despite a close play at the plate on the throw from centerfield from Max White. Two innings earlier, Cody Reine gunned down Matthew Carter at the plate to end the Army threat.
The RBI single by the Black Knights' Zach Price was quickly countered by the Sooners. A leadoff walk by White turned into a manufactured run as he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Erik Ross and then to third on a balk by Army starter Logan Lee. White scored on the second out which was recorded on a RBI groundout by Evan Mistich.
Lee matched Gray's seven innings with seven of his own and one run allowed off two hits and four walks. Reliever Gunnar Carroll tossed three innings and gave up the single to centerfield to White in the 10th inning. Bushyhead scored the decisive run to give Carroll (2-1) his first loss of the year.
