Paval, Webb Ready for First Round Action at NCAAs

NORMAN, Okla. - Costin Paval will begin play in the singles portion of the 2012 NCAA Championships on Wednesday, May 23, while Paval and Dane Webb will take to the courts on Thursday, May 24, in the doubles portion of the Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Paval, ranked No. 12 in the ITA singles rankings, compiled a 15-3 record on the year while holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Sooners. The 2012 All-Big 12 selection will face Georgia's Hernus Pieters, ranked No. 60. The two will square off at 9 a.m. CT.

Paval and Webb comprise the nation's 10th-ranked tandem and boast a 17-4 record after competing at the No. 1 position for Oklahoma. The OU duo will take on Penn State's Russell Bader and Jason Lee, ranked No. 27.

Last year, Paval and Ionut Beleleu represented the Sooners in singles play. In 2009-10 Paval and former Sooner Andrei Daescu earned All-America status after the duo advanced to the Elite Eight and finished the year ranked No. 13. The Sooners have not had an All-American in singles since Olivier Lorin in 1987.

The University of Georgia will serve as host. All sinlges matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
