FORT WORTH, Texas -- Oklahoma entered Tuesday's game with TCU having won eight straight in the series, but the ninth win slipped away when the Horned Frogs scored two runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth for a 4-3 victory.

TCU improved to 27-15 and earned their first win over OU since 2007.

The Sooners (29-17) have won 11 of the last 14 games but were unable to give Dillon Overton, who was solid in his start, extra insurance late in the game. OU stranded seven runners in the game, including a Sooner on third base in the third, sixth, seventh and eighth innings. OU outhit TCU 9-8, but committed three errors which led to two unearned runs.

After tying the game at three runs apiece in the eighth inning, a two-base error by Caleb Bushyhead gave TCU a leadoff runner but a failed sacrifice bunt retired the Horned Frog at third base. The second error in the game came after a double play ball was only able to retire the lead runner at second base and an errant throw by Jack Mayfield put the go-ahead run on second base. Derek Odell singled in the game-winning run with two outs, just a couple innings after coming off the bench as a pinch hitter.

"I thought we played well at times and really it comes down to stranding runners at third," said head coach Sunny Golloway, who is 11-3 at OU against TCU. "They have a good team and they are going to be tough at home. In the past, we've won these games. We won eight straight against them. We won a lot of tight games.

Steven Okert (5-5) took the loss for OU after giving up the final run, which was unearned, in the ninth inning. TCU's Kevin Allen improved to 4-2 after allowing one hit and two strikeouts in the final frame.

Overton struck out the first two batters he faced but an error by Max White and a double that got over the head of Brian Brightwell gave TCU a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Down 1-0 in the top of the fourth, the Sooners took their first lead of the game as White tripled in Mayfield and Bushyhead, who both connected on singles to begin the frame. Cody Reine drove in White on a sacrifice fly to give the Sooners a two-run lead. The triple by White extended his hitting streak to nine games, a span that has seen him drive in 18 runs, but he was unable to record his ninth straight game with multiple hits with a 1-for-3 evening.

After surrendering the three runs in the fourth, TCU starter Preston Morrison, who made each of his four previous starts in the weekend rotation, was replaced after giving up all three runs in four innings by reliever Brandon Finnegan. The Sooners were retired in order by Finnegan, who was originally scheduled to start tonight's game, in the fifth inning. Finnegan did not allow a hit in the sixth inning and was relieved before starting the seventh inning.

Overton retired the side in order in the second, third and fourth innings, but gave up back-to-back singles to begin the bottom of the fifth. However, Erik Ross gunned down a runner trying to take third base off the second single and the out kept the TCU offense at bay.

TCU threatened again in the eighth as Damien Magnifico, who entered the game to begin the seventh, gave up three straight singles before getting relieved by Okert. Okert walked Jason Coats to bring the game within one run and then induced a double play that tied the game at three runs apiece.

That handed Overton the no-decision with seven strikeouts and one walk across six innings. He allowed one run and it was unearned off four hits.

"Some of our guys played terrific," said Golloway. "I thought Woody (Erik Ross) played great, throwing out a guy at third. I thought Dillon pitched terrific and Dylan Neal caught well. Its a little bit of everything when you look at the losing side of it, it's not one guy, it's a lot of things."

The Sooners return to Big 12 play this weekend against OSU (26-17, 11-7 Big 12) in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series. Friday's opener in Tulsa is set for 7 p.m. while the series shifts to Oklahoma City on Saturday (7 p.m. ) and Sunday (4 p.m.).

"What I talked to the team about is that we are wound too tight right now, because we realize we are a bubble team for the NCAA," added Golloway. "Oklahoma is not use to being in that position but we need to learn to fight in this position."
