NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will be the No. 3 seed at the 2012 NCAA Championships and will compete in the first semifinal on Friday, April 20, at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., the NCAA announced Monday.

NCAA Championships begins with two semifinals made up of six teams on Friday. The top three teams from each semifinal advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 21, for the 2012 national championship.

Joining OU in the first semifinal will be No. 2 UCLA, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Utah, No. 10 Stanford and No. 11 LSU.  The second semifinal will feature No. 1 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Oregon State and No. 12 Ohio State and will begin at 5 p.m. CT.

Oklahoma (24-3, 2-0 Big 12) advanced to its ninth-straight NCAA Championships and won its third straight regional title with its first place finish at the Champaign Regional.

Despite losing another gymnast (Hayden Ward) to a season-ending injury in the first routine of the night at regionals, junior All-American Kayla Nowak will be back in competition for the Sooners after suffering a hand injury the week before the Big 12 championship.

Nowak competed on bars, beam and floor in all 12 of OU's regular season meets and was also an all-around competitor in OU's win over Alabama in Norman. Last year at NCAA Championships, Nowak earned All-America honors on both bars and finished 12th on bars during event finals.

Semifinal pairings were determined based on the National Qualifying Score (NQS) which was calculated by adding the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to the team's score during regional competition.

Once the NQS was calculated, teams were ranked based on their NQS from one to 12. The 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 seeded teams were placed in one session, while teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 made up the other.
