NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 5 Oklahoma entered Saturday's match up with Texas Tech in a position it had not been in before after splitting the first two games of the Big 12 three-game series. Saturday's response was what OU Head Coach Patty Gasso said she was hoping for after Friday night's loss as OU claimed the series with a 4-1 win over Texas Tech to move to 32-5 on the year and 8-2 in the Big 12. Texas Tech fell to 31-9 and 4-4 in the Big 12 with the loss. The conference series win is Oklahoma's third of the season in three tries.

The response was fueled by the bat of freshman Lauren Chamberlain who sent two home runs out of the park to bump her season total to 19, just one off the Oklahoma single-season record of 20 set by Lynette Velazquez in 1999 and current Oklahoma volunteer coach Lisa Carey in 2000. The two shots gave Oklahoma its 15th game this season with multiple home runs as OU upped its record to 15-0 in those games. For Chamberlain, it was her fifth multiple home run game of the season as the Big 12 leader is just five off the Big 12 single season record.

Michelle Gascoigne picked up the win for the Sooners to move to 13-1 on the year as she struck out eight while walking just one and allowing six hits. Cara Custer took the loss for the Red Raiders to fall to 18-6 on the year.

“This is probably one of the proudest moments I've had with this team,” said Gasso. “Michelle Gascoigne performed exceptionally today and our defense answered the call behind her. This was a hard fought game against a good team. There is not a time against Texas Tech where you can sit back and feel comfortable. I have absolute respect for what our team did today.”

Chamberlain's two home runs were part of nine hits from the Oklahoma squad that moved to 29-2 on the year when collecting at least seven hits. The Sooners have at least seven hits in their last seven games.

For the first time of the three-game series, Oklahoma struck first as Chamberlain sent her 18th home run of the season over the right field fence for a quick 2-0 OU lead. After the Sooners held Tech scoreless in the first inning for the first time in the series, Destinee Martinez led things off for OU by reaching first on a throwing error by Tech pitcher Cara Custer. After the speedy sophomore stole second, Chamberlain laced her Big 12 leading 18th home run out of the park and set the freshman just two home runs away from the Oklahoma single-season record.

The Martinez-Chamberlain two-run home run show returned for an encore in the third inning when Martinez singled up the middle before Chamberlain switched the direction of her home run power, sending a shot over the left field fence at the OU Softball Complex to double OU's lead to 4-0.

Texas Tech picked up its lone run in the top of the sixth when Logan Hall and Sandy James hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning to score Hall.

Oklahoma returns to action on Wednesday night with the second leg of the Bedlam Series presented by Farm Bureau against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
