NORMAN, Okla. -- Heading into Thursday night's game between No. 5 Oklahoma and Texas Tech, the top two teams in the Big 12 in terms of home runs hit, a scoring frenzy was predicted by some, but due to strong pitching performances from both teams, a low-scoring 3-1 Oklahoma win was the result. OU moved to 31-4 and 7-1 in the Big 12 while Tech fell to 30-8 and 3-3 in the Big 12.

Keilani Ricketts moved to 18-4 on the year as she held Texas Tech to just one hit for her fifth one-hit ball game of the season. Ricketts struck out 11 Red Raiders in her 13th double-digit strikeout game of the season while walking just two batters. Texas Tech's lone hit came off a Sandy James home run in the first while the Sooners collected eight hits to move to 28-1 in games this season when they collect at least seven hits.

Kelsey Dennis took the loss for Texas Tech after giving up two runs, one earned, against six batters in one-third of an inning. Cara Custer started the game for the Red Raiders, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up one run.

“That was a hard fought game. You could feel both teams really fighting. We were really inspired by Keilani Ricketts tonight. This was one of her better games of the season, especially with her adjustments early in the game,” said OU Head Coach Patty Gasso. “Loved the play of our slappers and the speed on the base path tonight, it really put pressure on their defense. Texas Tech is a veteran team and they know how to play. Once we tied it up, everyone exhaled and we started swinging the bats. I'm really looking forward on how we will come out tomorrow.”

Texas Tech got on the board first in the opening inning when James sent a solo shot over the right-center wall for her eighth home run of the season. The solo shot was just the third home run given up by Ricketts this season.

The Sooners were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Brianna Turang laid down a bunt to advance to first before back-to-back singles from Brittany Williams and Javen Henson. A Destinee Martinez grounder to second resulted in the sophomore being thrown out at first but gave her the seventh RBI of her season as Turang raced home to knot up the game at one run apiece.

Oklahoma expanded its lead by two runs in the bottom of the fifth off two hits and with the help of a Texas Tech error. Ricketts led off with a walk before Jessica Shults singled to right field to put Oklahoma runners on first and second. A Georgia Casey hit to first was misplayed by Texas Tech relief pitcher Kelsey Dennis allowing Casey to reach via an error and Ricketts to race around third for OU's second run of the game.

After Casey stole second, Katie Norris was walked before Turang reached on a fielder's choice with Casey being thrown out at third and Shults advancing home for OU's third and final run.

The Sooners and the Red Raiders return to action Friday night at 7 p.m. before closing out the three-game series Saturday at 12 p.m. Friday night's game is Military Appreciation Night as military members and their families will receive $4 admission with a military ID. The first 150 OU students at the game will receive free t-shirts while the first 100 receive a free hot dog, popcorn and coke.
