NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma Head Soccer Coach Matt Potter announced that senior forward Renae Cuellar (KWAY-ar) will join the Sooners for the 2012 campaign after transferring from the University of Arizona.

Cuellar, who has one year of eligibility left, not only was the Wildcats' leading scorers as a freshman and sophomore, but was an alternate for Mexico's 2011 World Cup team played in Germany.

Cuellar played for the U-20 Women's World Cup in 2010, also in Germany, and scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over England in group play.  She also found the back of the net in a 3-3 draw with Japan.

“Renae is a proven goal scorer at both the collegiate and international level,” said Potter.  “I have known Renae as a youth player and followed her career throughout. Renae will be a wonderful addition and complement to our current team as she brings a competitive attitude and winning mentality.  Both Renae and I share a drive and ambition to fulfill our potential. I look forward to the journey as we look to bring out the best in each other and help in the future success of our Sooner Soccer program.”

At Arizona, she played in 15 games over the last two years after missing the final 14 contests of the 2010 season with a knee injury.  Prior to the season-ending injury, she scored six goals in the first six games and also added three assists.  In 2011, she played in nine games for an Arizona squad that was defeated by Oklahoma in Tempe, 4-2, and finished 1-16-2 overall.

Born in Bellflower, Calif., Cuellar was tied for the team lead in goals scored as a true freshman in 2008 with five.  She also ranked second on Arizona's roster with two assists.  She was named to the All-Pac-10 freshman team for her efforts and was also tabbed conference honorable mention.

In 2009, she again led the team in scoring six goals and 12 points and was named honorable mention for the second straight season.  Cuellar put together an impressive five-game stretch during that campaign in which she netted five goals, including three game winners against Old Dominion, Brown and UC Santa Barbara.

Cuellar is part of a group of eight newcomers that will join the Sooners in 2012.  In February, Potter announced the signings of Devin Barrett (Corona, Calif.), Jade Dapaah (Bedford, Texas), Katie Marcheso (Littleton, Colo.), Madison Smith (Edmond, Okla.) and Kenzie Sublett (Norman, Okla.). OU also announced the addition of Martha Turrentine (Plano, Texas), who signed an agreement to enroll at the University of Oklahoma in the fall. In December, the Sooners also added Cassidy Nangle (Issaquah, Wa.,) to a financial aid agreement.
