NORMAN, Okla. – Two University of Oklahoma gymnasts earned two of final three Big 12 weekly awards of 2012, announced by the conference Tuesday.
Brie Olson was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for the second time this season, while Erica Brewer is this week's Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
OU gymnasts have won all 11 of the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week awards this year, marking the first time in conference history that a school won one award all season.
The Sooners won 17 of the total 33 Big 12 weekly awards of 2012.
Olson was named Specialist of the Week after sharing the bar title at Ohio State with teammate Megan Ferguson with a score of 9.875.
Olson also added scores of 9.85 on both vault and floor against the Buckeyes.
Brewer earned the newcomer honor after tying her career-high on floor at Ohio State with a 9.875 and posting a 9.85 on bars and a 9.8 on beam.
Brewer has competed the all-around the last five weeks after stepping in for Rebecca Clark who suffered a season-ending injury. In the last five meets Brewer has posted a 9.8 or higher 12 times.
OU starts the postseason playing host to the 2012 Big 12 Championship on Saturday, March 24 at 4 p.m., at the Lloyd Noble Center.
