Sooners Finish in Second Place at Clover Cup

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished in second place at the 12-team Clover Cup after firing a third-round 305 (+17) Sunday in Mesa, Ariz. It marked the fourth time in seven team events this season that the Sooners finished in first or second place.
The Sooners, No. 30 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, finished with a 54-hole score of 886 (+22) and came in 31 strokes behind 15th-ranked Colorado and six shots in front of third-place Tulsa. Four Colorado golfers finished in the top six (including first, second and third place), while two Sooners finished in the top 10.
“It was a long day out there,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin of the weather-plagued third round. “We had three delays where we came off the golf course. You definitely don't expect this kind of weather in Arizona. The conditions were tough but we hung in there.”
Leading the Sooners was Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Javanil, who fired a third-round 75 (+3) en route to a fourth-place showing. The sophomore posted a three-round 217 (+1) to record her 10th top-10 finishof her OU career.
Taylor Schmidt also finished in the top-10 for the second time this season after firing an even-par 72 in the third round, matching her best score of the tournament. Schmidt, who registered a team-high four birdies on the day, started the round in a tie for 16th place and moved up into a tie for eighth with a three-round 221 (+5).
Anne-Catherine Tanguay jumped nine spots on the leaderboard to finish the tournament in a tie for 19th place after shooting a third-round 75 (+3). It was the eighth top-20 career finish for the sophomore, who totaled 226 strokes (+10) over three rounds.
Sophomore Emily Collins entered the day in 10th place but shot a third-round 83 (+11) to finish in a tie for 22nd place with an 11-over 227.
Junior Jacki Marshall shot an 85 (+13) in Sunday's round and finished in a tie for 37th place with a 234 (+18).
Jade Staggs, who competed as an individual for the Sooners, finished in a tie for 57th place after carding a third-round 74 (+2). It was by far the best round of the weekend for the sophomore, who shot an opening-round 88 and a second-round 79.
The Sooners will next compete at the Liz Murphey Collegiate in Athens, Ga., March 30 through April 1.
