Newcomer on Campus: Brannon Green

NORMAN, Okla. -- SoonerSports.com continues its series highlighting the three junior college players who are among OU's early enrollees this spring.

Today, we feature Brannon Green, a tight end out of Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. Considering the Sooners do not have a single player returning at tight end, Green is hoping to contribute immediately.

Green sat down with host Chris Plank on our live Signing Day webcast and also participated in a quick Q&A with Andrew Gilman.

Why did you choose OU?
"The situation with the tight ends, it came down to that. Two tight ends graduating and two more leaving for other reasons. That, and it's only about three hours away from home. There are a lot of OU fans back there. Playing for Coach Stoops is a dream come true."

You're one of four tight ends who signed this year. Are you expecting to play right away?
"I feel like I can come in right away and play. I'll definitely have to earn it, but it's a great opportunity."

Did Landry Jones coming back make a difference to you?
"Definitely. It's a great feeling to play with a guy like that. He's been great with me so far, too. He throws a great ball and has been showing me a lot of stuff so we can get some chemistry there. He puts the ball where it needs to be."

You had opportunities to go other places. What was the deciding factor about OU?
"They compete for championships year-in and year-out. I didn't want to come to a school just to play. I want to win and I knew this school wins every year."

Did you cheer for OU growing up?
"It's funny, me and my family grew up Nebraska fans. They recruited me a lot and I always liked them."

So, did you have a lot of Nebraska shirts and things?
"I had a lot of it, that's for sure, but it was easy to get rid of."
