NORMAN, Okla. – The second-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team defeated No. 21 Michigan and TWU, Friday, Feb. 24 at the Lloyd Noble Center as the Sooners posted their season-best home score with a 197.225.
Oklahoma (15-2, 2-0 Big 12) is the only team in the NCAA to break the 197-mark five times this year. The 197.225 against Michigan and TWU was OU's first score of 197 or higher at the Lloyd Noble Center this season.
Megan Ferguson won the bars, beam and floor titles Friday. The senior posted a career-high 9.975 on beam to become the first gymnast in the country this season to reach the mark on the apparatus. Ferguson won the bar title with a season-high-tying 9.925 and the floor title with a 9.925.
Ferguson has scored a 9.9 or higher 15 times this season, including 12 times out her last 15 routines.
Sara Stone shared the vault title with Michigan's Joanna Sampson, both gymnasts scored a 9.95 on the event.
Next up, the Sooners host the reigning national champion No. 3 Alabama Friday, March 2 at 7 p.m., for
OU's Senior Night at the Lloyd Noble Center. During Alabama's last trip to Norman, OU scored a program record 197.950 to upset the then-ranked No. 1 Crimson Tide while the fans set the program attendance record.
OU started on vault Friday with a 49.375 to hold first place over Michigan and TWU after the first rotation.
Stone led the Sooners on vault with a 9.95, her eighth score of 9.9 or higher on the apparatus this season. Stone is ranked No. 12 nationally on vault and has won seven vault titles this season.
OU added two additional scores of 9.9 to tie its third-highest team vault score this season.
Madison Mooring tied her career-high with a 9.9, the sophomore also scored a 9.9 on vault at Arkansas on Feb. 5, while Brie Olson also scored a 9.9 for the Sooners. Olson has scored a 9.9 or higher in four of her last five vaults.
In the second rotation, the Sooners posted a 49.225 on bars, anchored by a 9.925 from Ferguson in the sixth position of the lineup.
The score tied Ferguson's season-high on the event and was her fourth score of 9.9 or higher on bars this season.
OU posted three scores of 9.8 or higher prior to Ferguson's routine. Kayla Nowak and Taylor Spears both scored a 9.85 while Olson posted a 9.875.
The Sooners entered the final rotation with a firm, 147.925-146.900, lead over Michigan after a 49.325-showing on beam.
Ferguson once again posted a team-high with her career-best 9.975. Ferguson is one of just two gymnasts in the country to post a 9.975 on beam this season. Ferguson has scored a 9.9 or better in her last five beam routines.
OU ended the night with a 49.300 on floor in the final rotation. Ferguson scored a team-best 9.925 on floor in the anchor position, while OU had four scores of 9.8 or higher from Lara Albright (9.85), Olson (9.875), Erica Brewer (9.8) and Nowak (9.85).
