Sooners in 14th After Second Round

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team carded a 310 (+26) for the second consecutive round Tuesday at the 54-hole Northrop Grumman Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Course in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Sooners have a two-day total of 624 (+56) to sit in14th place with one round remaining.
Oklahoma, No. 27 in the GolfWeek rankings, is facing its toughest tournament field of the season. The Northrop Grumman features three top-10 teams, six top-25 teams and the remaining six teams are all ranked in the top 50.
Sophomore Anne-Catherine Tanguay led the Sooners in the second round with a 5-over 76. Tanguay improved her round score by nine strokes after shooting an 85 in Monday's round.
Tanguay finished her round strong by collecting three birdies on her final four holes. This brings her 36-hole total to 161 (+19) and she is now tied for 69th place.
Junior Taylor Schmidt and sophomore Jade Staggs each shot 77 (+6) in the second round. Schmidt shot par on a total of 15 holes and finished the day tied for 44th place. Staggs moved up three spots and is now tied in 57th place.
Sophomore Chirapat Jao-Javanil is tied with Staggs for 57th place after firing a 80 (+9) in the second round. Fellow sophomore Emily Collins also shot a 9-over 80 and is tied for 71st place.
UCLA, ranked No. 1 in the country, leads the tournament with a 36-hole total score of 570 (+2). Second place rival, USC, ranked No. 4, trails the Bruins by 18 strokes.
