Women's Golf Claims Its Highest National Ranking Ever

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team claimed its highest national ranking ever Thursday when the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings slotted the Sooners No. 3.
OU, which was No. 13 last week, jumped 10 spots after winning this week's 18-team Susie Maxwell Berning Classic by 29 strokes on its home course. All seven Sooners finished in the top 30, six of them in the top 20.
Oklahoma has played a competitive fall slate, with a schedule that ranks No. 22 nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin. The Sooners have finished in the top 10 of all three of their events.
“The ranking is definitely exciting for us,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. “We've all been working hard and to see it pay off after our home event is fantastic. Not only are we ranked No. 3, but we also have three players in the top-25.
The three golfers Drouin-Luttrell referred to are juniors Anne-Catherine Tanguay (ranked No. 13), Chirapat Jao-Javanil (No. 16) and Emily Collins (No. 23).
Tanguay holds the team's lowest scoring average this season at 72.11. She has finished in the top-20 of all three tournaments and took fourth place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic after firing a third-round 67 (-5).
The 2012 NCAA champion, Jao-Javanil claimed her fourth career individual title by winning the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. She finished with a 7-under 209 and won by two strokes.
Collins, like Tanguay, has also finished in the top-20 in each of OU's fall events, including a team-best 16th-place showing at the highly competitive Liz Murphey Fall Preview. Collins also finished sixth out of 95 competitors at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
“Our season is very long,” said Drouin-Luttrell. The ranking is a great honor but we still have a long way to go. We still need to go out there and compete. This is motivation for all of us to get better and continue improving."
The Sooners will participate in their final fall tournament of the season Oct. 29-30 at the Mash-Up Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
