NORMAN, Okla. -- The North squad defense for the 2012 Senior Bowl just got a whole lot better. University of Oklahoma defensive back Jamell Fleming officially accepted an invitation to participate in the annual game.
Fleming marks the 101st Sooner to be invited to showcase his talents for NFL scouts, GMs and coaches at the Senior Bowl. The game began in 1950.
Fleming will be coached by Leslie Frazier and the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff next week. The 63rd Senior Bowl is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 28th in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game and all practices will be televised live by the NFL Network.
"Jamell is certainly deserving of this opportunity to spend a week here with the top decision makers in the National Football League," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. "He's proven to be one of the premier defenders in the Big 12 and we expect him to put on a show here in front of the NFL scouts, coaches and GMs."
Fleming earned first-team All-Big 12 honors this season after finishing fifth on the team with 60 tackles, including four tackles for loss. He added ten pass breakups, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries on the year. He also returned a fumble 56 yards for a score against Texas-the second touchdown of his career.
