EUGENE, Ore. — Seven more Sooners qualified for the NCAA Track & Field Championships Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Eugene, Ore., to give the Oklahoma program 17 qualifiers for the national meet in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11. Latoya Greaves (100-meter hurdles), Karen Shump (discus), Brittany Borman (discus), Candyce McGrone (200-meter dash), Mookie Salaam (200-meter dash) and K.P. Singh (discus) along the women's 4x100-meter relay all punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships. Ten Sooners had already qualified for the NCAAs in the first two days of competition on Thursday and Friday.

The 4x100-meter relay of Shawna Anderson, Candyce McGrone, Sherine Wells and Ti'Anca Mock was the first event on the track and the quartet cruised to an automatic qualifying spot by finishing third in its heat and sixth overall with a time of 44.42. Despite a wet track, clean handoffs were abound as the team was a full second of the fourth-place finisher, UNLV, in its heat. Texas A&M won the second heat and clocked the event's fastest time, 43.60.

Competing in the first heat of the women's 100-meter hurdles, Greaves ran her third-best time of the season, 13.36, to finish fourth in the heat. The senior was forced to sit and watch the display board at Historic Hayward Field as the top three finishers in each heat and the next best three times qualified to the NCAA Championships. After the second heat, Greaves slipped to the second-best at large time but was relieved after the final heat's fourth-best finisher only clocked a time of 13.57 and secured the Jamaican's spot in the NCAA Championships with the 10th-best time.

Oklahoma is the only program from the west to qualify two athletes in the women's discus and Shump and Borman finished fifth and 12th, respectively, in the event. Shump used a throw of 172-2 (52.49) on her fourth attempt after advancing to the finals with a throw of 167-2 (50.95), moving from 35th to ninth in the process. Borman's top throw of the day, 166-4 (50.71), came on her third attempt as she entered the finals in 10th before slipping to 12th. The discus qualification is the second of the weekend for both as Shump qualified Friday in the shot put and Borman Thursday in the javelin.

McGrone used a personal-best time of 22.81 in the 200-meter dash to advance to Des Moines in the second event in as many days. The junior ran the second-fastest time in the event, finishing second in her heat behind the 22.62 from Texas A&M's Dominique Duncan. McGrone's equals the second-fastest time in Oklahoma history and trails just the 22.79 program record set by Scottesha Miller in 2008.

Like McGrone, Salaam also earned an NCAA Championships spot in a second event on Saturday as he won the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.60. Running comfortably ahead of the field in his heat, Salaam cruised across the finish line just as he did Friday in the 100-meter dash when he qualified for Des Moines in that event.

The final event at Historic Hayward Field was the men's discus in which Singh joined the theme of the Sooners of the day by qualifying for a second event at the NCAA Championships. One day after earning a trip to Des Moines in the discus, Singh accomplished the feat in the discus as he took 12th with a top throw of 178-7 (54.44). Singh entered the weekend ranked 20th nationally in the event and 14th among athletes from the west.
