NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma pitcher Keilani Ricketts tossed her 10th shutout of the season, struck out seven and allowed just one hit to guide the Sooners to a 6-0 win over the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane Saturday afternoon in the second day of the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Softball championship.

The Sooners came out swinging in the top of the first scoring twice courtesy of a two-run home run by Haley Nix.  It was her first of the regional and the ninth of the season.  The three hits produced by the Sooners in the first inning are one more than the team could muster in their 1-0 loss to Tulsa starter Aimee Creger and the Golden Hurricane in their last meeting March 23 in Tulsa.

Oklahoma would add one more run in the top of the third when Ricketts drove in Brianna Turang who reached base on an infield single.

Tulsa's only scoring threat came in the bottom of the third.  An error, a single, a fielder's choice and a walk loaded the bases for the Golden Hurricane.  With the bases full and two outs, Lacey Middlebrooks struckout to end the scoring threat.

Oklahoma added insurance in the top of the sixth inning when they scored three runs on three hits.  The rally started with a Brittany Williams walk followed by a Chana'e Jones single and a Dani Dobbs double.  After two strikeouts, Destinee Martinez singled to bring home Jones and Dobbs.  The hit extended Martinez' hitting streak to nine games. Ricketts ended the game 3-for-4 with a run driven in at the plate.

Rickets improved her record to 27-12 on the season.  Her seven strikeouts brings her career strikeout total to 742 and moves her ever closer to Oklahoma's career strikeout record of 805 held by Jill Most.  Michelle Gascoigne pitched the bottom of the seventh inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.

Tulsa starting pitcher Aimee Creger pitched three innings, giving up three runs on five hits.  She struck out two.  Her record falls to 24-3.  Her replacement Lacey Middlebrooks threw three innings, allowing three runs on three hits.  She struck out two.  Jordan Kinard pitched the final inning, allowing one hit.

With the win, Oklahoma advances to the regional final Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.  Tulsa will play the winner of the Iona/Missouri State game to determine who will face Oklahoma in the regional final.  The game will be aired statewide tomorrow afternoon on Cox Channel 3 (HD 703) in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
