2011 Big 12 Championship Notes
First Day - Friday, May 13
Norman, Okla.

Men's 10,000 Meters: Joe Bosshard of Colorado won the event in a meet-record time of 28:52.85, shattering the previous record of 29:23.67 set by Matthew Chesang of Kansas State in 2005. Bosshard is the third from Colorado to win the event and the first Buff to do so since Kenyon Neuman in 2008 ... The top five finishers - Bosshard, Kevin Schwab (Oklahoma), George Alex (Oklahoma), Richard Medina (Colorado), and Bill Kogel (Oklahoma) - bested the previous meet record. ... Colorado (20 points) and Oklahoma (19 points) were the only two squads to score in the event.

Men's Hammer: Oklahoma's KP Singh won the event for second-straight year with a meet-best, fourth-round attempt of 211-6 (64.46m). Singh, who won the title by more than 14 feet, is the third in Big 12 history to win back-to-back titles. Singh also won the indoor Big 12 weight throw title this year.

Men's Javelin: For the second-straight year, the Big 12 champ in the javelin was Texas A&M sophomore Sam Humphreys. Humphreys, with a winning, fifth-round throw of 238-3 (72.63m), is the first back-to-back champ in the event's conference history and the first two win more than one javelin title since Kansas' Scott Russell (1998, 2000, 2002).

Women's 10,000 Meters: Oklahoma junior Jessica Engel won her first Big 12 crown by taking the race in 33:42.11, topping Dani Stack of Iowa State by over six seconds. Engel broke from a pack of three with 450 meters to go to charge for the win and the second-fastest winning time in conference history. Engel is the first in Oklahoma history to win a Big 12 crown in the event.

Women's Hammer: Nebraska junior Victoria Zimmerman won the event on her second attempt with a best of 197-9 (60.28m) ... Zimmerman was part of a Husker 1-2-3 sweep of the event as junior Jade Siegel (192-4, 58.63m) and senior Samantha Musil took second and third, respectively. Zimmerman is Nebraska's first conference champ in the event since 2003 (Amanda Moreley).

Women's Javelin: Oklahoma junior Brittany Borman won her first javelin Big 12 crown with a third-round best of 163-8 (49.90m). Borman has now won two outdoor conference crowns as she is the defending champ in the discus which will be held Sunday. It is the second-consecutive Sooner win in the event as Amy Backel took the title for Oklahoma in 2010 ... Texas A&M sophomore Bonnie Richardson came within seven inches of Borman's mark in the fifth round to take runner-up honors at 163-1 (49.70m).
