No. 22 Sooners Face Big 12 Road Tests

NORMAN, Okla. – The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team faces a pair of road tests this weekend as the Sooners face No. 33 Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m., and No. 25 Texas in Austin on Sunday, April 10 at noon.
Oklahoma (13-4, 5-1 Big 12) is currently second in the Big 12 standings and is the second-highest ranked Big 12 team in the latest national rankings, trailing only No. 9 Baylor in both categories.
“This is a big weekend for us that will have major implications on our national ranking and Big 12 standings,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “We understand what it will take to be successful this weekend and we are excited for the opportunities.”
Senior Ana-Maria Constantinescu is currently No. 102 nationally in singles and No. 66 in doubles with partner Alice Radu.
Texas A&M and Texas are perennial powers in the Big 12 conference. A&M finished fourth in the league last season, while Texas finished second.
Texas A&M (10-5, 3-2 Big 12) is undefeated at home this season and boast the country's No. 34 singles player, Nazari Urbina.
Texas (10-6, 5-2 Big 12) is coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 9 Baylor on Sunday, April 3. Five of the Longhorns' six losses were to top 25 teams, including two in the top 10.
Texas' Ariel Ellis is currently ranked No. 21 nationally in singles, while UT's Amanda Craddock and Cierra Gaytan-Leach are No. 48 in doubles.
The Sooners will play their fifth and sixth straight matches against nationally-ranked opponents this weekend. OU has played a top 25 team in two of its last three matches.
OU is currently 9-4 against teams ranked in the ITA top 75, with its four losses all coming to top 25 opponents.
OU looks to bounce back after suffering its first shutout in the Mullins era. OU lost to No. 21 Tulsa, 7-0, last Wednesday, March 30.
