NORMAN, Okla. – The 25th-ranked Oklahoma women's golf team received an at-large bid Monday to the NCAA West Regional, to take place at the Washington National Golf Course May 5-7 in Auburn, Wash. The 54-hole tournament is one of three regionals that will serve as a preliminary round of the NCAA Championship.

“We are honored by the NCAA's invitation to compete in the West Regional,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “We look forward to being in the Seattle area and to compete in this prestigious event. As excited as we are, we still have a lot of work to do this week in preparation for the tournament.”

The Sooners will be competing in regional play for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since 2008. Senior Ellen Mueller competed as an individual in last year's West Regional in Stanford, Calif., and qualified for a spot in the NCAA Championship after tying for seventh place.

NCAA regionals will also be held in Daytona Beach, Fla. (East Regional), and in Notre Dame, Ind. (Central Regional).

A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships finals. At each regional, the top eight team finishers and top two individuals not playing on the eight qualifying teams will earn bids to the 2011 NCAA Women's Golf Championship May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

Oklahoma will be seeded 10th in a 24-team regional that boasts eight top-25 teams, including top-ranked USC.

The Sooners will be joined by fellow Big 12 squads Iowa State and Texas A&M. Seven total Big 12 schools received bids to regional competition.

Drouin's squad is coming off of a fifth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship this past weekend, its eighth top-five finish of the season. The Sooners' three-round 888 (+24) represented their best ever score in the 15-year history of the conference's championship, topping their previous event low of 912 in 2002 when they finished in second place.
