NORMAN, Okla. -- For the first time in his career, junior catcher Tyler Ogle was named the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday for games played through April 17.  The conference office also tabbed Zach Johnson (OSU) and Ross Stripling (TAMU) the newcomer and pitcher of the week, respectively.

The San Antonio, Texas, native is the fourth different Sooner to collect a Big 12 weekly award in 2011 and it marks the sixth honor this season collected by OU, a league best. Michael Rocha has twice been named the pitcher of the week (March 7 and April 4) and Garrett Buechele has also collected two awards for player of the week (Feb. 21 and 28).  Freshman Jordan John was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 28.

In four games last week, Ogle put together an impressive resume that included a.647 (11-for-17) batting average with one double, three homers, eight runs scored and 11 RBIs against No. 9 TCU and No. 18 Oklahoma State.  Ogle also slugged at a 1.235 clip with a .650 on-base percentage (walk and HBP) and a 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate.

In addition, the four contests featured four-multi-hit games and three multi-hit contests, while Ogle tied a career high with four hits in games one and three vs. OSU and drove in three runs in each game against the Cowboys.  In the three Big 12 games alone, Ogle finished with a .714 batting average, that included 10 base hits, two homers and nine RBIs.  On Saturday, the two homers against OSU marked the first multi-homer game of Ogle's career and the first by a Sooner since Cody Reine had two against then-No. 1 Virginia in the 2010 Charlottesville Super Regional.

In 2011, Ogle is hitting .367 (fifth in the Big 12) in 2011 and ranks second on the team with 31 RBIs. He is tied for third in the Big 12 with seven homers with Garrett Buechele, and has hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games with six multi-hit games.

Ogle and the Sooners begin a five-game home stand next week, featuring a pair of midweek games against Dallas Baptist (April 19) and Bacone College (April 20).  The game against Bacone was added to the schedule to make up for the contest lost at Arkansas on March 29.

Following the two midweek games, the Sooners return to Big 12 play over the weekend against Nebraska (April 22-24).
