NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma women's golf head coach Veronique Drouin announced Thursday the signing of Tyler Junior College golfer Jacki Marshall to a national letter of intent.
Marshall, rated No. 3 in Golfstat's national JUCO rankings, won seven collegiate tournaments this season and finished among the top three individuals in all nine events. The sophomore will have two years of eligibility at OU.
“I'm really excited that Jacki chose the University of Oklahoma for the next two years,” said Drouin. “She's a very solid player with an incredible résumé while at Tyler. She has a real strength in her short game that we can help her continue to master here at OU. I was very impressed with the way she could scramble the ball around the greens when I watched her play about a month ago. She will be a great addition to the Sooner family.”
After signing her letter of intent, the Brisbane, Australia, native said she is thrilled to become a member of the OU golf program.
“I'm so excited to be a Sooner,” said Marshall. “I've been working for this for the past two years. I'm kind of at a loss for words. I didn't really know what to expect before I visited OU, but I fell in love with it on my visit. I can't wait for next year.”
Marshall and Viktoria Lager of Longboat Key, Fla., will be the only two additions to next year's Sooners squad. Lager signed her letter of intent in November and will be a freshman in 2011-12. She boasts four wins on the International Junior Golf Tour and four top-two finishes on the Skandia Tour in Sweden. Lager won the Junior Golf America Masters, placed in the top 10 of six tournaments on the Future Collegians World Tour and posted two top-10 American Junior Golf Association finishes.
