NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team fired a 36-hole 618 (+42) Monday at the 18-team Baylor Spring Invitational at the par-72 Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco, Texas. The Sooners finished the day in fourth place and trail leader Texas Tech by 14 strokes and second-place UTSA by three shots with 18 holes remaining.
"It was a tough day," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. "We played with 30 mph winds and the course was playing really tough, causing us to not make a lot of birdies. We still have 18 holes left and I'm confident we can close out the regular season on a high note."
Freshman Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Javanil carded a 75 (+3) in the morning round and followed with a team-best 74 (+2) in the second round. Jao-Javanil is tied for fourth place with a 36-hole 149 (+5), two strokes behind leader Chelsey Cothran of Baylor.
Senior Ellen Mueller shot a two-round 153 (+9) to finish the day in a tie for 14th place out of 94 individuals.
Emily Collins recorded a 158 (+14) to stand in a tie for 34th place heading into the final round. Fellow freshman Anne-Catherine Tanguay, who is one stroke behind Collins, is tied for 36th.
Junior Brooke Collins is tied for 51st place with a 36-hole 161 (+17), while freshman Mariah Montoya, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 76th after carding a two-round 168 (+24).
The Sooners will tee off in their final round of the regular season Tuesday morning at 8:30 CT with a shotgun start. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com.
