DENTON, Texas - The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team traveled to North Texas Wednesday evening and defeated the Mean Green 3-0.
The Sooners (13-5) got a complete game shutout from Keilani Ricketts, the 16th of her career. The shutout moves Ricketts into 10th on the Oklahoma career list in the category.
Ricketts allowed just two hits and one walk in the game. She struck out eight moving her single season total to 92.
Haley Nix led off the second inning with a single to right field and Ricketts walked to give OU two runners with no outs. The pair advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Chana'e Jones and scored on a double by Cierra Hughes to put OU up 2-0.
Jones added a third run in the fourth with her first home run of the year.
Dani Dobbs ended the game 2-for-3, with a single and double. Jones went 1-for-2 with the home run. Lisa Johnson and Brooke Foster had the only two hits for the Mean Green.
Ashley Kirk picked up the loss for North Texas. She also threw a complete game, allowing the three earned runs on five hits and two walks.
Oklahoma returns home Friday evening to face No. 24 Auburn at 6 p.m. CT.
The Sooners take on Illinois-Chicago and No. 19 Oklahoma State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT respectively as part of The Preview featuring Bedlam at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
OU closes out the weekend on Sunday against UIC at 11:30 a.m. CT.
