NORMAN, Okla. -- Right fielder Cody Reine batted in both of No. 2 Oklahoma's runs in the 2-1 win over Arkansas-Little Rock Saturday afternoon at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
After giving up a home run to Sean Bignall during UALR's first at bat, OU starter Bobby Shore was relieved after the first inning by left-hander Dillon Overton. The freshman from Weatherford, Okla., shined in the opportunity, tossing 6 2/3 of scoreless relief, while striking out five Trojans.
In three relief appearances this season, Overton has pitched 13 scoreless innings and allowed 10 hits with 12 strikeouts.
"I went in there and just did my part and threw strikes," said Overton, who improved to 4-0.
The visitor's received a solid start from Travis Henke, who limited the Big 12 Conference's best offense to six hits and one run over seven innings. But Reine provided the Sooners just enough offense to record their 16th straight win to start the season.
In the third inning, Reine was hit by a pitch from Henke with the bases loaded and he came back in the eighth with two runners on and drove in another run off an error by UALR second baseman Jason Houston.
In his return for the Sooners, right-hander Ryan Duke (1-0) relieved Overton late in the bottom of the eighth and secured his first win of the season.
The Trojans' bullpen featured four relievers and the first out of the bullpen, John Maler, was credited with the loss. Maler (0-2) gave up the go ahead run on Reine's at-bat and also surrendered a base hit to Garrett Buechele.
Chris Ellison led the Sooners with two base hits and Cameron Seitzer extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a double in the fourth.
The Sooners will complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park against Arkansas-Little Rock. Right-handed pitcher Burch Smith (2-0) will start for the Sooners, and right-hander Calvin Drinnen (1-1) will start for the Trojans.
The game will be televised by the Sooner Sports Network (Cox Ch. 3 in OKC and Tulsa). The contest can also be heard on the Sooner Sports Network, KREF 1400 AM.
