NORMAN, Okla. -- Tyler Ogle (4-for-4) and Garrett Buechele (5-for-6) paced the offense on Sunday as the No. 4 University of Oklahoma baseball squad pounded out 27 hits and completed a three-game sweep of Oakland University in a 19-6 victory.

Oklahoma's 27 hits tied the most since March 22, 2009, at Kansas State and the Sooners outscored the Grizzlies 38-17 through the three-game series (7-5, 12-6, 19-6).

The win bumped OU's record to 9-0 on the season while Oakland dropped to 0-3. The Sooners are the lone undefeated team in the Big 12 Conference after Texas A&M suffered its first loss earlier today.

Burch Smith (1-0) recorded his first win as a Sooner with six shutout innings and six strikeouts. Smith lasted five innings in his previous start, which also featured nine strikeouts, but left with a no-decision.

“He made a big stride,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “He looked better than he did in his first start. He's going to continue to build off that.”

On Sunday, Smith took a no-hit bid into the fifth inning before surrendering an infield single to Ryan Waldhart. He would later give up another hit in the sixth but only allowed three base runners all afternoon (hit batter).

“I felt like I had better command of the strike zone today and was able to throw more off-speed pitches for strikes along with my fastball,” said Smith. “I know there's going to be ups and downs. I'm just going to try and roll with the punches.”

The offense provided run support right out of the gate as Ogle's two-run single in the first gave the Sooners an early 3-0 lead.
The second frame saw four more runs from the Sooners, including another run driven in by Ogle. OU plated three in the fifth and seven in the sixth while batting through the order.

Ogle had a solid day at the plate for the Sooners, with a career-high four hits. He also blasted a three-run homer in the sixth inning, scored two runs and tied a career-high with six RBIs.

Buechele also had a career day with five hits while also driving in two runs. The OU offense continued its torrid pace which has seen it record double-digit hits in each of the last seven games and score 10 or more runs in six of those contests.

Oklahoma is back in action Tuesday for its first road game of the season against University of Texas-Arlington at 3 p.m. CT in Arlington, Texas.

The road game marks the first of five for the Sooners, which finishes with four games in San Diego, Calif. next weekend. OU will play San Diego State twice, San Diego and Cal in the USD Tournament, which will be played at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
