NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma baseball team won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader over William and Mary, 9-6. The Sooners (2-0) came back from an early 3-0 deficit to beat the Tribe at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

William and Mary led the Sooners for the first time in the series after a three-run homerun by Ryan Williams in the top of the first.

Sophomore Max White scored the Sooners first run of the day off of a throwing error on an Eric Ross single in the bottom of the third. The Tribe responded in the top of the fourth with a solo homerun by Williams, his second long-ball of the day.

Junior Cameron Seitzer scored off of a Chris Ellison sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Sooners within two runs, but the Tribe would respond again, scoring a run in the top of the fifth.

Trailing 5-2 halfway through the fifth, third baseman Garret Buechele hit his second homerun of the year, a two-run shot to left, to bring the Sooners back within one. The Sooners took control of the game from there on out.

White scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the sixth with Cody Reine hitting a two-run homerun off Jay McCarthy on the next pitch to give Oklahoma its first lead of the day. McCarthy would go on to be credited as the losing pitcher.

The Tribe got back within one in the top of the seventh, but runs from Cale Ellis and Chirs Ellison in the Sooners next at-bat would seal the victory for Oklahoma.

Senior reliever Anthony Collazo was awarded the win for the Sooners, striking out one in his one inning of work.

Jack Mayfield, who started the first six innings at shortstop, came into pitch the final 2.2 innings of the games, collecting his first collegiate save.

The first pitch of the second game of the Sooners' doubleheader with William and Mary is schedule for 3:30.
