NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team is back atop the polls with this week's No. 1 ranking as released on Tuesday morning. It marks the first time this year that the Sooners have held the top spot after being ranked fourth in the preseason.
OU has been ranked No. 1 in each of the last seven seasons and in nine out of Mark Williams' 11 years at the helm.
The Sooners vaulted to the No. 1 spot after improving to 6-0 on the season with an impressive win against No. 9 Nebraska and No. 13 UIC last weekend in Lincoln, Neb.
In addition, Oklahoma currently owns the top spot on floor (60.350) and vault (64.017).
Individually, senior Steven Legendre is the nation's top all-around gymnast with an average of 89.283. The Sooners also hold the top spot on two apparatuses with Legendre on floor (15.750) and Jacob Dalton on vault (16.467).
Oklahoma returns to action against MPSF Conference foe No. 4 Stanford on Feb. 19 in Palo Alto, Calif. The meet will get underway at 9 p.m. (CT) at the Maples Pavilion.
The two teams have combined for the last six MPSF titles with Oklahoma winning five (2010, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005) and Stanford winning the title in 2009.
