Sooners in Eighth After Two Rounds in Puerto Rico

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team shot a second-round 306 (+18) Monday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic to move up one spot to eighth place with a 36-hole total of 614 (+38). The Sooners are four strokes out of the top five with one round remaining at the River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R.
"We need to work on eliminating big numbers," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. "If we maintain our focus and work on some specific areas of our game, we can have a great round tomorrow that can help set the tone for the rest of our spring season."
Ellen Mueller led the Sooners in the second round, firing a 1-over 73. The senior, who entered Monday in a tie for 55th, jumped into 23rd place with a 36-hole total of 152 (+8).
Freshman Chirapat "Ja" Jao-Javanil shot a 74 (+2) to finish the day in a tie for seventh place with a two-day score of 147 (+3). The Thailand native is four strokes behind frontrunners Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech and Stephanie Meadow of Alabama.
Junior Brooke Collins and freshman Emily Collins are tied in 60th place with two-day scores of 158 (+14). Brooke Collins turned in an 8-over 80 Tuesday while Emily Collins carded a 79 for the second straight day.
Freshman Anne-Catherine Tanguay shot an 83 (+11) to move into in 79th place out of 98 individuals with a total score of 161 (+17).

Alabama, ranked No. 1 in the country, leads the event with a 36-hole score of 584 (+8). Second-place Iowa State trails the Crimson Tide by nineshots.
