Oklahoma Game Notes |
Oklahoma played in its 45th bowl game (No. 7 nationally) and second time in the Insight Bowl (1979 Copper Bowl, lost 31-6 to BYU). The Sooners have 27 bowl victories (No. 4 nationally) with a 27-17-1 record. The Sooners have won three straight bowl games (2010 Fiesta Bowl vs. Connecticut and 2009 Sun Bowl vs. Stanford). It marks the second three-game win streak in bowl games in the Bob Stoops' era (2000, 2001 and 2002).
The Sooners are 2-0 all-time against Iowa. The Sooners defeated Iowa 21-6 in Norman on Sept. 15, 1979.
The Sooners led 14-0 at the half, the 10th time this season to hold a lead at the break (OU 10-0).
OU has held its opponents scoreless in 20 of the 52 quarters played this season (39 percent). The defense also had two interceptions today, the fifth time this season to have multiple picks in a game.
Oklahoma's first touchdown of the game (two plays, five yards) marked the 11th time this season that the Sooner offense scored on two plays or less.

Individual Notes |
Alexander recorded two pass deflections on Friday to give him 14 in his career, a total that is tied for the most in a career by an OU defensive end. His eight recorded in 2011 ranks only second by a Sooner DE in a single season behind Jimmy Wilkerson (10 in 2001).
Blake Bell
Freshman QB Blake Bell tied an OU bowl record with three rushing touchdowns. Mike Gaddis (1991 Gator Bowl), Jack Mildren (1972 Sugar Bowl) and Eddie Davis (1946 Gator Bowl) also had three in one game.
Bell's first rushing touchdown today moved him into sole possession at OU for the most rushing touchdowns by a freshman QB with 11, moving past Charles Thompson (1987). Bell has 13 on the season after recording his fourth multi-TD game of the season. He has scored in six straight games.
Jamell Fleming
Senior DB Jamell Fleming recorded the seventh interception of his career and second this season. Fleming also had an interception in last year's Fiesta Bowl against Connecticut.
Fleming had three pass deflections on three consecutive plays in the fourth quarter. He finished with three, tying a career high (3 vs. CU in 2010) and has 10 on the year. He ranks eighth all-time at OU with 24 career PBUs.
Trey Franks
Sophomore WR Trey Franks had a career-high 52-yard kickoff return to begin the second half. Franks has 525 return yards this season, the third most in OU single-season history. He moved past Mossis Madu (471 in 2009), Juaquin Iglesias (475 in 2008) and Brandon Daniels (508 in 1999).
Landry Jones
Junior Landry Jones made his 37th career start at quarterback tonight, tying him with Cale Gundy (1990-93) for the most starts in program history at that position. It is also Jones' 34th consecutive start, tying him with Steve Davis (1973-1975) and Jack Mildren (1969-71) for the most consecutive starts for an OU quarterback.
Jones threw his 29th touchdown of the season in the third quarter and first since Nov. 5 against Texas A&M.
Kenny Stills
Sophomore WR Kenny Stills had 31 yards receiving against the Hawkeyes to give him 1,635 in his career. He ranks 10th all-time in career receiving yards at OU, moving past Jermaine Gresham, Tinker Owens and Keith Jackson.
Tress Way
Junior punter Tress Way's 67-yard punt in the first quarter was a season long and tied an Insight Bowl record with Travis Brown from Kansas (2001) for longest punt in the game. He later added a 59-yard punt, his 58th career punt of 50-plus yards.
R.J. Washington
Junior DE R.J. Washington recorded his first-multiple sack game of his career. He has 5.5 sacks in 2011.
