NORMAN, Okla. -- An anticipated pitching matchup lived up to the billing on Wednesday as game two of the Red-White Series ended in a 3-3 tie after nine innings. Junior Damien Magnifico (White) did not surrender a hit and struck out five batters while sophomore Jonathan Gray (Red) struck out five batters and allowed one run off two hits in 2 1/3 innings.

"I thought the teams played really well today," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "They had great intensity and clearly our starting pitching with Jon Gray and Damien Magnifico was terrific. Those guys can really throw the baseball. They got both teams out to a great start."

The two incoming hurlers were both on a limited pitch count and were part of the recruiting class ranked No. 4 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball and No. 13 by Baseball America this year.

Magnifico, a 2009 fifth rounder of the New York Mets, and Gray, a 2011 10th rounder by the New York Yankees, were both clocked in the mid-to-high 90s in the intrasquad. Magnifico tripped triple digits on the MPH display on the scoreboard, topping out at 102.

"It's pretty amazing," added Golloway on the two pitchers' performance. "We've had that display for a number of years and I have never seen it hit 100. And you have Magnifico hitting 100, 101, 102 today, then you have someone like Jon Gray pitching against him, and he's sitting there rocking the gun at 97-98. It's pretty amazing but those guys also understand its about throwing strikes."

Gray's team held a 3-2 lead until the bottom of the ninth inning when senior Tanner Toal's RBI single drove in junior Garrett Carey to tie the game at three runs apiece. White had the game-winning run on third base, but junior Jake Fisher pitched the Red team out of the jam which will at least force a fourth game in the best-of-five series.

Senior Caleb Bushyhead broke up the scoreless game in the bottom of the third with a RBI double to right field but the Red team battled back to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on freshman Brian Brightwell's two-run double.

Red narrowed the lead down to one run in the bottom of the sixth off sophomore Ty Taylor's singled to center field but White quickly countered in its next at-bat on sophomore Jake Smith's RBI up the middle.

Offense was the highlight of game one on Monday which was claimed by the Red team in a 10-5 decision. Smith finished with three hits and three RBI on Monday and got the offense rolling with a two-run triple to the gap in left center in the second inning and capped off the scoring with a RBI double in the seventh inning.

Game three is slated for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park. RS-Sophomore Jordan John will look to give the Red team a 2-0-1 lead in the series while sophomore Ty Taylor aims to give White its first victory.

The contests in the best-of-five set are free and open to the public at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The remainder of the schedule for the series is as follows, all dates and times are subject to change:
