NORMAN, Okla. -- Behind Anne-Catherine Tanguay's career-low 67, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team climbed into a tie for second place through two rounds of its own Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on Monday.

The Sooners shot a second-round 285 (-3) at the 6,327-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, improving on their first-round score by eight strokes. OU and Florida State trail leader Texas A&M by seven strokes.

Tanguay, a sophomore from Quebec City, Quebec, shot 5 under par on the day to move into sole possession of first place, one stroke ahead of Florida State's Laure Castelain and Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman. Tanguay, whose previous best score at Jimmie Austin was a 69 in last year's Susie Maxwell, birdied five holes on the day and recorded par on the other 13. It was the first bogey-free round of her life.

“We played really well today,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “The golf course was playing pretty good and the girls made some birdies early and just kept going. We made a lot of pars, which was great. A.C. (Tanguay) played awesome. She was very steady all day and it was good to see her go low. Taylor (Schmidt) also played great for us. It's good for us to get momentum going into the last round tomorrow.”

Said Tanguay, “I was feeling very confident about my game. I just wanted to go out there and have fun. Everything is feeling great this week. We had a good game plan coming in and I think that it feels great to play at home.”

Schmidt fired a 1-under 71 for the Sooners (one shot off her low collegiate round) to climb into a tie for 15^th place with teammate Emily Collins, who followed her first-round 1-under 71 with a 75 (+3) Monday.

OU's Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Javanil improved from the first round, shooting an even-par 72 in the second. Jao-Javanil, who is playing in the Sooners' No. 1 position, is tied for 17th place in the 90-player field.

Senior Brooke Collins shot a second-round 79 (+7) and is tied for 66th place.

Competing as individuals for the Sooners and unattached from team scoring are Jade Staggs (second-round 77), Jacki Marshall (76) and Viktoria Lager (84). Staggs is tied for 47th place, Marshall is tied for 53rd and Lager is in 89th place.
