Horton Leads Day One at Visa's

Select Sooners on World and Pan Am Teams

NORMAN, Okla. - Fresh off a successful 2010 Visa Championships, OU letterwinners Jonathan Horton and Chris Brooks and OU senior Steven Legendre were named to the squad that will represent the U.S. at the 2010 World Gymnastics Championships, Oct. 17-24, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Sophomore Jacob Dalton was also named to the U.S. team that will compete at the 2010 Pan American Championships, Aug. 30-Sept. 5, in Guadalajara, Mexico. OU Assistant Coach Rustam Sharipov was tapped by USA Gymnastics to coach the Pan-American team.

Horton, who took home the title at the 2010 Visa Championships, Brooks, Legendre, Dalton and OU sophomore Alex Naddour were all named to the U.S. Senior National Team following the meet last night. This is Horton's second consecutive all-around title at the Visa Championships.

This is not the first time that OU Head Coach Mark Williams has had three of his former and present gymnasts named to the U.S. World Team. Dalton, Legendre and Horton competed in London, England at the 2009 World Championships.

The last Sooner to compete at the Pan American games was Legendre in 2007. The Port Jefferson, N.Y., native won a gold medal in the all-around with a score of 87.032.

The members of the 2010 World Team are: Chris Brooks of University of Oklahoma, Chris Cameron of University of Michigan, Jonathan Horton of Cypress Gymnastics, Steven Legendre of University of Oklahoma, Danell Leyva of Universal Gymnastics, Brandon Wynn of Ohio State University

Paul Ruggeri of University of Illinois, is the alternate. Vitaly Marinitch of Colorado Springs, Colo., was named head coach earlier this summer.

The members of the Pan American Team are: Dylan Akers of Cypress Academy of Gymnastics, Alex Buscaglia of Stanford University, Jake Dalton of University of Oklahoma, Bryan Del Castillo of University of California, Berkeley, Wesley Haagensen of U.S. Olympic Training Center, Glen Ishino of University of California, Berkeley

NBC Sports and Universal Sports will broadcast and webcast the action from the 2010 Visa Championships. On Aug. 15, NBC (Cox Channel 4, 704 HD in Oklahoma City) will air a taped recap show of men's finals at 2:30 p.m. ET.
