Summer League Update No. 5

NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.

The fifth installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:

SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Jack Mayfield and the North Shore Navigators defeated the defending champion Newport Gulls to win their first-ever NECBL championship. Mayfield and company prevailed with a 5-4 win in the decisive third game on August 10 at Fraser Field.

Mayfield was perfect on the night with one hit, two walks and one RBI in the championship game.

On the season, Mayfield hit .279 with 12 hits, 4 RBIs and six doubles. The Del Rio, Texas, native also recorded one win on the mound for the Navigators going eight innings with four strikeouts.

The Cotuit Kettleers and the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox start the Cape Cod Summer League Championship Series on Wednesday. Three players will represent OU in the three-game series as Bobby Shore and Ryan Duke are with the Kettleers and Ryan Gibson is with the Red Sox.

OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Former Sooner infielder Danny Black is having a good start to his minor league career playing with the Jamestown Jammers (Class A Short-Season) hitting .257, along with nine RBIs and five stolen bases. In his last 10 games, he has averaged .300 at the plate and collected three RBIs and two stolen bases.

Outfielder Joe Dunigan has stepped up play for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx (AA) in his last 10 games hitting .278 with three homeruns and 12 RBIs.

OKLAHOMA IN THE MAJORS
Daniel McCutchen came in relief once again for the Pittsburgh Pirates pitching 4.1 innings with one strikeout and no runs scored on Aug 8 against Colorado. The Norman, Okla., native also recorded his first stolen base of the season after being hit by a pitch.
