NORMAN, Okla. — Three athletes from the Oklahoma Track and Field program open up competition as members of Team USA Friday at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Miramar, Fla. Ronnie Ash (110-meter hurdles), Brittany Borman (javelin) and Karen Shump (shot put) will all don the red, white and blue uniforms of the American team in the quest for gold.

Ash will kick things off Friday at 5:20 p.m. EST in the semifinals of the 110 hurdles with Shump taking to the throws ring just 10 minutes later. Borman is slated to compete in the javelin Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST.

All three Oklahoma athletes are coming off an outdoor season that saw them each win Big 12 titles and earn All-American status. The three most recently competed in the USA Championships where Ash finished third in the 110 hurdles, Borman seventh in the javelin and 10th in the discus and Shump was 11th in the shot put.

On the collegiate scene, Shump finished second in the shot at the NCAA Championships, Borman second in both the javelin and discus and Ash was third in the 110 hurdles.

The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Team USA dominated the medal count and the record books at the 2008 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Toluca, Mexico. The team won 62 total medals (28 gold, 26 silver, 6 bronze) and set 12 meet records.

This year's meet is the second straight NACAC Championships that OU will be represented on Team USA after Scottesha Miller and Leslie Cole claimed gold medals in 2008.
