OU Leads Nation in Publications Awards

NORMAN, Okla. -- For the second straight year, the communications staff in the University of Oklahoma's Athletics Department has captured the most awards nationally for publications. Sooner media guides and posters pulled in 16 awards over the 2009-10 school year in contests sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In addition to their distribution among news media, the guides have been the only bound edition permissible in the recruiting process under NCAA Rules.
Oklahoma won Best in Nation awards for the softball guide, postseason guide (football), rowing guide and wrestling guide. The Sooner books also won Best Covers in football, wrestling, men's golf and women's gymnastics.
The OU football guide finished second nationally as did the women's golf guide and the men's and women's basketball posters. The women's gymnastics guide was third, while the men's basketball guide, the rowing guide and the spring poster (baseball) all finished fourth. The women's basketball guide was seventh.
Oklahoma also got strong contributions from undergraduate interns and graduate assistant students. Eight of the individuals cited on the awards certificates fell into one of those two categories.

• Women's Golf Media Guide - 2nd in the nation - Stephanie Turner, Phillip Rogers, Scott Matthews
• Women's Gymnastics Media Guide - 3rd in the nation - Phillip Rogers, Leslie Koch, Scott Matthews
