NORMAN, Okla. --
No. 6 Oklahoma (50-16) returns to play in its 10th College World Series appearance against No. 8 Clemson on Tuesday at 8 p.m. CT. The Sooners are coming off a 4-3 victory on Sunday night over No. 6 South Carolina and improved to 5-5 all-time in CWS openers. OU and Clemson have met once previously on May 23, 1992 in the NCAA Starkville Regional. The Sooners recorded a 7-6 win that day in the only meeting between the schools. The winner of OU/Clemson will face the winner of Arizona State/South Carolina at 8 p.m. on Friday, while the loser's bracket game will be played Thursday at 6 p.m.

• While OU knocked off the tournament's No. 5 national seed in Virginia last week, the No. 8 Tigers won at home against Alabama in the Clemson Super Regional. In the NCAA Regional, Clemson went to Auburn and defeated Southern Miss and the host Tigers twice to advance. The Tigers are making their 12th CWS appearance and first since 2006 (others: 2002, 2000, 1996, 1995, 1991, 1980, 1977, 1976, 1959 and 1958). Clemson is 11-22 all-time in Omaha after topping Arizona State, 6-2, on Monday morning.

• A winner in 15 of the last 17 outings, OU is ranked as high as No. 6 this week by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA polls, while Baseball America (No. 11) and USA Today/ESPN Coaches' (13) are idle until the conclusion of the tournament. OU has nine previous CWS appearances (1995, 1994, 1992, 1976, 1975, 1974, 1973, 1972 and 1951) and owns two national titles in 1951 and 1994.

PLAYER TO WATCH - BOBBY SHORE
A member of the Norman Regional All-Tournament team, Shore followed up his one earned run allowed in 7 1/3 innings against North Carolina with eight shutout innings against Virginia. Shore has started each of the weekend-clinching games in the NCAA tournament where he is 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA,11 Ks and two walks.

OU IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
OU is 76-63 all-time in the NCAA Tournament after winning Sunday' 4-3 game over South Carolina. With 10 College World Series Appearances, the Sooners made their first appearance in the NCAA Super Regional round in 2006 against then-No. 1 Rice (format originated in 1999).

The 2010 Norman Regional was the sixth in the last seven years and 33rd overall. OU won its 11th regional/district title in 2010 and second under current head coach Sunny Golloway.

Oklahoma last won the National Championship in 1994 and captured its first title in 1951. OU is one of 13 schools to win multiple national titles in Division I baseball. The Sooners also advanced to the College World Series in 1951, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975 when the tournament was played in a district format.
Besides the 1994 national title run, Golloway was on the 1992 and 1995 coaching staffs that led OU to Omaha.

OU is 17-10 in the NCAA Tournament under Golloway.

- Oklahoma's only meeting with Clemson came in 1992 during the NCAA Starkville Regional. The Sooners won 7-6 and won the regional en route to the program's seventh CWS appearance.

LAST TIME OUT
The Sooners won its fifth CWS opener in 10 chances with a 4-3 win over No. 5 South Carolina. OU evened the series with the Gamecocks at one games apiece. The only other meeting in the series came in 2007 at the Hughes Brothers Challenge in Wilmington, S.C. OU hit two home runs in Sunday's win off the bats of Caleb Bushyhead and Garrett Buechele as Michael Rocha improved to 8-2 with six innings. The game was delayed six hours and 16 minutes due to rain and lightning in Omaha.

- OU starts six sophomores, one freshman and two juniors in the lineup after losing a Big 12-leading nine players to the draft in 2009.
- The last time OU won 50 games was during the program's second national championship run in 1994 (50-17). The Sooners own OU's other 50-win seasons came in 1975 (55) 1976(62) and 1985 (55).

- Ryan Duke is 12-for-13 in save situations this year and ranks 21st in the nation in that category (2nd in Big 12). His 28 career saves is tied for the program lead with Jeff Bajenaru (1999-2000).
- Jeremy Erben's scoreless streak ended after 22 2/3 innings on April 1 vs. Texas. He has not allowed a run in 20 of his team-leading 32 relief appearances with a 7-1 record (five saves).
- Zach Neal tossed the Sooners' first complete game of 2010 with a nine-inning performance at Texas Tech. Jack Mayfield followed with a complete-game shutout against Oklahoma State in the series finale.
- Caleb Bushyhead (SS) is the only Sooner to play in all 66 games and he leads the team with 65 starts.
- Bushyhead had one hit in 22 games last season and has 82 hits in 2010. He is second on OU with 24 multi-hit games and had an 18-game streak (career high) snapped in Big 12 championship.
