NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma golfer Ellen Mueller shot a 4-over-par 76 in the second round of the NCAA Championships in Wilmington, N.C., Wednesday on the 6,368-yard Country Club of Landfall layout. Her overall score of 149 (+5) places her in a tie for 52nd place out of 126 competitors halfway through the 72-hole tournament.
Mueller, representing the Sooners individually, shot a 36 (+2) on the front nine with bogeys on holes No. 3, 5 and 8, and a birdie on the par-4 seventh hole. On the back nine, Mueller recorded bogeys on holes No. 12 and 13 before registering par on the final five holes.
Severe weather delayed play twice Wednesday and prohibited some competitors from completing their second round. Golfers who fell into that category will conclude their round with a shotgun start early Thursday morning.
"We had a long day at the golf course," said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. "Ellen played solid considering all the delays we had. It's always tough to concentrate during weather delays."
Said Mueller, "I am hitting the ball well, just not converting my birdie opportunities. The last few holes I made some great putts to save par. My putting stroke is starting to feel really solid, so hopefully I can make more putts tomorrow and put up a low score."
