Eugene, Ore. — Jessica Engel clocked the fifth-fastest 5,000-meter run and the quickest in the Martin Smith era late Friday night at the Oregon Relays at the legendary Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., as the South Dakota native finished eight overall in the event. Engel was one of two Sooners in the event as Lauren Watson finished with the 11th-best time, crossing the line in a time of 17:07.26. Engel held off the professional athlete Jen Puzey by over 13 seconds in the event.
In a shorter event, Natalie Crain won the B section of the women's 800-meter run as she ran a season-best time of 2:14.95. The three were joined on the Hayward Field track by Molly Ferguson who finished eighth overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:31.35.
