SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Oklahoma senior forward Amanda Thompson will continue her playing career in the Sooner State while Abi Olajuwon and Nyeshia Stevenson join former teammates.

Thompson was picked 19th overall by the Tulsa Shock in the second round of the 2010 WNBA Draft held Thursday at NBA Entertainment Studios.

The Chicago native averaged 13.1 points and 10.5 rebounds and was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team and NCAA Kansas City Region All-Tournament Team as she helped the Sooners advance to back-to-back Final Four appearances.

"Our fans were talking about how much they'll miss me,'' Thompson said. "It will be a great opportunity to still play in front of them.''

Thompson was the first ever pick for the franchise since it moved from Detroit in the offseason. The Shock traded its first round pick as part of a deal for players Amber Holt and Chante Black.

Thompson, an All-Big 12 First Team and Academic All-Big 12 Second Team member, served as team captain for three seasons and completed one of the most remarkable all-around careers by a women's basketball player. Thompson became the first player in Sooner history to record 250 assists, 100 blocks and 100 steals in a career and also totaled 1,202 points and 940 rebounds.

Olajuwon, taken 28th overall by the Chicago Sky in the third round, exploded on the scene as a senior after competing against four-time All-American and 2009's seventh overall pick Courtney Paris. Olajuwon finished 2010 averaging 10.6 points and 7.3 rebounds.

In Chicago, she'll join her former mentor, who's rights were picked up by the Sky in the offseason via the Sacramento Monarch's dispersal draft.

The Los Angeles native improved as the season progressed, having her best games of the year during OU's Final Four run as she averaged 13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 65 percent field-goal shooting and 71 percent free-throw shooting during the NCAA Championship.

Stevenson ended her Sooner career as perhaps the program's most improved player ever. The Little Rock, Ark., native was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection and added her name to the record book. Stevenson matched a single-game high for 3-pointers with nine in OU's overtime win against Marist and smashed the record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer, making at least one in 22 straight games.

Named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Kansas City Regional, Stevenson averaged 18.8 points and 56 percent field-goal shooting, including a 38 percent clip from 3-point range, in five NCAA Championship games this season.

Stevenson could play with former Sooner teammate Ashley Paris, who has a training camp contract with the Mercury.

Stevenson is the 12th Sooner, the most from any Big 12 Conference school, to be drafted by a WNBA team.

WNBA teams open training camp April 25. Exhibition games begin April 30 and the league's 14th season will start May 15.
