Erben Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Senior captain Jeremy Erben was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 7 as announced by the conference office. The reliever shared the honor with Texas A&M's Barrett Loux, while Raynor Campbell from Baylor was named the player of the week. It is the first career honor for Erben and the first by a Sooner this season.
Erben (5-0) appeared in four games for the Sooners last week and did not allow a run while picking up three victories. In six innings of work, Erben struck out eight batters and held the opposition scoreless with four hits and a walk allowed.
The New Braunfels, Texas, native has been OU's best reliever in 2010 as he leads the Big 12 with five victories so far this season after entering 2010 with a career 1-4 record. In seven relief appearances in 2010, he owns a 0.57 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work.
His only no-decision of last week came on Tuesday against UT-Arlington as he held the Mavericks to one hit in one inning of work with two strikeouts. That outing led to another OU victory and the fourth save of 2010 for Ryan Duke. Erben has been the perfect setup man for Duke, who led the Big 12 in saves last season and is currently No. 1 in the league. Erben has pitched in front of Duke in four of his five saves.
On Thursday, Erben struck out three against South Florida in two innings and surrendered two hits for the win. Two days later, he pitched a perfect inning against Western Illinois to record his fifth victory. On Sunday, Erben lasted two innings and struck out two batters for his third victory in three straight appearances.
No. 15 Oklahoma returns action on Tuesday night at Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m. and comes back to Norman for a 3 p.m. showdown with Houston Baptist on Wednesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Both games will be broadcast live for free on SoonerSports.com and Wednesday's game marks the first of 19 home games set to be televised by SoonerVision on Cox Channel 7 in Oklahoma City and Channel 3 in Tulsa.
