NORMAN, Okla. --
No. 17 Oklahoma recorded its third one-run victory of the week with a 4-3 triumph over South Florida in the Sooner Classic on Saturday. The Sooners also topped the Bulls two days earlier in a 5-4 decision and have won five straight to improve to 10-1.

The Sooners scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth as pinch runner Erik Ross crossed home after he came in for Ross Hubbard, who entered the game as a pinch hitter. In his at-bat, Hubbard struck out but a dropped third strike and a wild pitch allowed him to reach first, and Ray Delphey (1-2) compounded the mistake with a throwing error that allowed him to reach third base.

"It's a different way to try to win a game, other than getting a hit or a bunt and those type of things, but we have the ability to do several things and find ways to win," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "Tip your cap to South Florida, but our guys kept battling and did what we had to do to win the game."

OU owned a one-run advantage on two separate occasions in the game but South Florida (1-9) tied the game up at three with Chad Taylor's two-run homer off Bobby Shore in the seventh.

The homer ended Shore's afternoon despite a solid start for the third straight start. Shore lasted 6 2/3 innings and struck out seven but it was the homer and two triples in the sixth that gave him the no-decision.

The one-run games are nothing new to Golloway's resume. The skipper entered the 2010 season with the best winning percentage among Big 12 coaches over the last five years. Golloway and the Sooners are 3-1 this season in the one-run contests and he currently stands at 53-20-1 (.723).

Jeremy Erben picked up his team-leading fourth victory with a perfect eighth inning. Erben, now 4-0, entered the 2009 season with a 1-4 career mark. His scoreless effort set up closer Ryan Duke, who picked up his Big 12 leading fifth save and the Corpus Christi, Texas, native is seven short of the program leader Jeff Bajenaru (28).

For the third straight game the Sooners took the game's early lead as Caleb Bushyhead's sacrifice fly in the second inning gave OU a 1-0 lead.

For the first five frames, the sacrifice fly looked like that was all Shore would need as he cruised into the sixth inning with three hits allowed and three strikeouts.

The two triples by the Bulls in the sixth ended Shore's shutout bid and forced the Sooners to get offensive in the bottom half of the frame.

"Bobby Shore was terrific in a starting role today and has been very consistent," said Golloway. "It's unfortunate sometimes when you throw a game like that and end up with a tough no-decision. We did a great job of pitching today."

In the bottom of the sixth, OU produced its fourth multi-homer game of the season as Chris Ellison and Garrett Buechele delivered solo shots. Ellison became the 11th different Sooner to homer this season while Buechele, the team leader in the category, equaled his total from 2009 with four.
