PALO ALTO, Calif. — Both Kevin Williams and Jeremy Sudbury made their Oklahoma outdoor debuts late Friday night at the Stanford Invitational and both already made their marks on the OU record books as they each broke school records in Palo Alto, Calif. Sudbury broke a 17-year old 10,000-meter run record while Williams knocked off a 34-year old mark in the 5,000-meter run.

Running in the second section of the 10K, Sudbury claimed the section win with a time of 29:18.64. The time was 12 seconds better than the previous program record of 29:30.56 set by Conor Holt in 1993. The time is also more than two minutes faster than the previous top 10K in the Martin Smith era, a time of 31:31.40 run by Jon Grey in 2007.

The first section of the men's 5,000-meter run actually saw two Sooners break the OU record in the event with Williams claiming the faster time. Williams finished ninth in the section with a time of 13:53.08 to top the school record of 13:54.9 run by Stan Vernon in 1976 and Noel Berkeley in 1989. Rob Sorrell also ran under the time as he finished 11th with a time of 13:54.69.

The third section of the 5,000-meter run saw two more current Sooners join Williams and Sorrell on the all-time OU performance list as Bobby Nicolls and Bill Kogel clocked the seventh- and ninth-fastest performances in program history. Nicolls, making his OU debut, finished fifth in a time of 14:14.92 while Kogel, the 2009 Big 12 Cross Country Newcomer of the Year, was sixth in a time of 14:16.41

Rounding out Oklahoma's group of competitors at the event was Tony Clement who finished 12th in the second section of the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:08.43.

The rest of the Oklahoma Track and Field program is slated to compete Saturday at three different locations. The women's sprints are in Tempe, Ariz., for the Arizona State Invitational while women's distance is in Fayetteville, Ark., for the Razorback Spring Invitational. The remainder of the program is in Arlington, Texas for the Bobby Lane Invitational.
